The IMBES Board has decided to cancel the 2020 IMBES/EARLI Sig22 conference in Montreal. Given the challenges and uncertainties facing the world currently with regard to COVID-19, it seems that this is the best option at this time. Nevertheless, there is also good news--we have been able to arrange to hold IMBES in Montreal at the same hotel, June 17-19 2021. We will have the same plenary speakers, and the symposia we have accepted will remain on the agenda for the meeting. We hope that you will be able to attend – please mark your calendars and save the date!

Welcome to the International Mind, Brain and Education Society (IMBES) website.

Our mission is to facilitate cross-cultural collaboration in biology, education and the cognitive and developmental sciences. As an organization, our objectives are to:

Improve the state of knowledge in and dialogue between education, biology, and the developmental and cognitive sciences;
Create and develop resources for scientists, practitioners, public policy makers, and the public; and
Create and identify useful information, research directions, and promising educational practices.

Dr. Kurt Fischer (1943 - 2020)

IMBES regrets to pass on the sad news of Dr. Kurt Fischer’s passing. Kurt was the co-founder of IMBES and the organization’s inaugural president. He launched the MBE journal, the first journal focused exclusively on the emerging field relating biology and cognitive science with education, and served as its first editor-in-chief. Until his retirement in 2015, he was the Charles Bigelow Professor of Education and the director of the Mind, Brain and Education Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education. He was a giant and a visionary whose work and thinking were instrumental to the launching of our interdisciplinary field. The legacy of his work lives on in ours.
